21st Century “You did what?” Jessie was pacing back and forth across the deck of Ceara’s houseboat.

Ceara continued watering her plants on her boat as Jessie 110 Linda Kay Silva

paced behind her. “Keep your voice down, my dear. I do know what I am doing.”

“But I thought you couldn’t—”

“I can’t. I cannot go back to Cate’s time…to my time, because I’m dead. I know I should have been more forthcoming with you about what I am capable of doing and the extent I am willing to go, but there just wasn’t time.”

Jessie turned and stared at her. “What else don’t I know?”

Ceara turned. “Probably quite a bit.”

“We’re talking about possessing people, here, Ceara. You possessed that boy.”

“I thought you’d be pleased to know that Duncan was not clobbered by a mob.”

Jessie shook her head. “I am, I guess. I just…it’s so…I don’t know.”

Putting her watering can down, Ceara said, “It had to be done.”

Jessie nodded. “I tried to get to Spencer through the Sidhe, but he was unreachable, and very unclear in the dream realm.

I think his injuries are adversely affecting him. I had to go through the portal. I did the only thing I could think of to do. I concentrated everything I had. It was all I had to give him.”

Ceara paused her watering and turned around. “So, I’m not the only one who’s been busy. Go on. Tell me more.”

“I left my memories in him.”

Ceara’s eyes grew big and she wrapped her arms around Jessie and hugged her closely. “Oh, my dear, you have come so far! I am so proud of you!”

“What can I say? I like the pirate bastard. He may not be Cate, but he cares about her like I do, and that has certainly endeared him to me.”

Putting her watering can on the ledge, Ceara motioned to Jessie to follow her into the kitchen. “My friend, Liam, from Wales called this morning. He confirmed what we already suspected.” Dropping two tea bags into cups, she opened the refrigerator and took out the half and half. “In Drake’s log, he simply calls the box it.” Setting the carton on the counter, she touched the touchpad on her laptop.
